(1) By train:
1. When you emerge after Immigration and Customs, look for signs to "Air Train" and go to Jamaicastation. It is $8.25 payable only by Metro Card, which you can purchase when you get down at Jamaica.
2. In Jamaica station, purchase ticket at a LIRR (Long Island Rail Road) vending machine (you can use a credit card) and
3. Take the (LIRR) -- Port Jefferson/Stony Brook line (You can check train timings here- https://new.mta.info/schedules from: Jamaica to: Stony Brook) It is about a 100-minutes ride. The fare is between $14 - $15.25 one way.
4.Get off at Stony Brook station.
If you are staying at the Hilton or the Holiday Inn Express, call them as soon as you get on the train and give them your train arrival time and ask for the shuttle. It will arrive within 15 minutes. (The hotel is a 15- minute ride from the station.)
(2) By taxi:
You can book a limo or taxi (Spartan, 631-928-5454) and give them your flight details, arrival date and time, and cell number and the driver will call you after you land and tell you where to come. The ride is about 90 minutes to Stony Brook. The fare is about $120 plus gratuity. Important: The limo will not take credit cards, only cash or (U.S.) check
You can also take Uber, Lyft, or a yellow taxi (Be careful to ascertain the price and destination).
From LaGuardia
(1) By train:
Once you leave the arrival hall, you can take the free LaGuardia Link Q70 to the Woodside LIRR at 61st St/Roosevelt Ave.
From the woodside station you can take the ‘Port Jefferson’ LIRR line (You can check train timings here - https://new.mta.info/schedules from: Woodside to: Stony Brook). It is about a 100-minutes ride. The fare is between $14 - $15.25 one way.
